Opportunities as Docents,
Volunteers or Interns
| |
Visitors
to MNA may view exhibits relating to the Museum's four main
disciplines: anthropology, biology, geology, and fine art in five
galleries and changing exhibits in three additional galleries.
Docents, volunteers, and interns are a critical part of making the
story told in the exhibits come alive.

Docent
Program |
Docents are an essential part of the
educational services that the Museum of Northern Arizona extends to
its members and the general public. Museum docents are volunteer
educators who assist the Museum in interpreting the natural and
cultural history of the Colorado Plateau and in helping the public to
understand fine arts, anthropology, special exhibitions, and the
historical legacy of the Museum of Northern Arizona. Every year,
docents enrich the education of more than 6,000 people of all ages.
Docents serve in a variety of
capacities, such as:
- Providing general and
specific tours of permanent
exhibitions
- Interpreting special
exhibitions
- Acting as guides to the
Museum's nature trail and
amphibian pond
- Orienting visitors and
providing general information
- Providing special programs,
such as hands-on-
activities for children and demonstrations at special events
- Serving as gallery guide for
drop-in visitors
- Instructing or presenting
programs to special interest
groups at the Museum
- Acting as guides to the
Museum's nature trail and
amphibian pond
- Acting as Museum Ambassadors
To enter the docent training program, a
minimum two year commitment and an interest in working with children
are required. After graduation, we encourage docents to continue being
active by committing up to 60 hours of service each year.
