Adventure and Education for Youths of All Ages!
Registrations are accepted by email or
phone. Please contact the Discovery Program Registrar,
Cathleen Patterson, at extension 241 to register. Contact Rosemary
Logan, Youth Program Coordinator at extension 222 for all other
inquiries.
The Museum of Northern Arizona’s
Discovery Program is a gateway into the wonders of the Colorado
Plateau. Forty-six classes are a summer’s worth of creative and
meaningful exploration. Taught by experienced educators, these
programs offer an exciting range of hands-on learning opportunities
about the region’s traditions of fine arts, natural sciences, Native
cultures, and ecology.

Summer Programs 2009

Ages 4-5 |
Dancing, dinosaurs, spiders, worms, prairie dogs, and the circle
of life on the Colorado Plateau. Great activities for kids
- and parents!
|
|
Ages 6-8 |
Activities to explore the arts, geology and early peoples of the
Colorado Plateau. Sculpt with clay,
discover prehistoric life, create great
stuff from your own hand-dyed textiles, dance, paint
– and
so much more!

|
Ages 7-12 |
Camp-out or Camp-in to discover the explore the stars and
seasons or the wonders of ancient dinosaurs.
|
|
Ages 9-13 |
Relive the life of a pioneer, explore Elden Pueblo or volcanoes,
turn raw wool into fabric, learn ancient pottery making
techniques, or get out onto the Colorado Plateau through Summer
Among the Peaks!

|
Ages 12-16 |
Field camps get you out on the Colorado
Plateau, rafting the San Juan River, climbing rock walls,
discovering the wonder of the plateau's insects, or designing
your own clothing - all in the middle of some of the world's
greatest landscapes.

Discovery Child Care
Discovery will offer child
care this year from 8–9 a.m., before its programs and from 12-1 p.m.
between programs. Child care is limited to a maximum of 20 kids. The
cost is $25 per week. Games and activities are provided.
Preregistration is required.

Reservations
2009 registration opens April 8 for
Members and April 13 for non-members. You may renew your
membership or become a member for the first time in order to qualify
for registration on April 8. For reservations or additional
information, contact the Discovery Office at 928/774-5213, ext. 241 or
Discovery@mna.mus.az.us. Reservations are confirmed with American
Express, Visa, Discover, or MasterCard. Personal checks are accepted
with a credit card hold. Confirmations are mailed upon receipt of full
payment. Please no faxes. If registration fee is not paid within 10
days, the student may be dropped without notice.
2009 Special
Offer: Become an MNA Painted
Desert level member for just $20 when you sign up for three* Discovery
programs. That's a savings of $40 off an annual family membership, and
a savings of $45 on Discovery program registration fees.
Your family membership includes free museum admission for two adults
and children under 17, invitation to member previews of exhibit
openings and festivals, and 10% discount on selected items in MNA’s
Museum Shop and Bookstore.

Junior Counselors
The Museum of Northern Arizona
will be offering the Junior Counselor program for the fifth summer in
a row. The Junior Counselor Program is for youth ages 13–18 interested
in volunteering with the summer Discovery Program. Training is
provided before camp.
Junior Counselors will be assigned classes, based upon personal
interest and program needs. Junior Counselors of a younger age will
assist with programs for 4–5 or 6–8 year olds, allowing them to serve
as mentors.
Applications will be accepted beginning April 21 and until all
positions are filled. Interviews for these positions will begin April

Cancellation
Policy
Cancellations must be received in writing by mail
or e-mail. If notice of cancellation is received 21 days prior to the
program’s start date, a refund less a $25 administrative fee (per
program/per reservation) will be issued. If notice is received after
21 days prior to the program’s start date, a refund less a $25
administrative fee (per program/per reservation) will be issued only
if the reservation is filled. If the Museum cancels a program due to
inclement weather or insufficient enrollment, a full refund will be
issued.
Program Information
To assure a quality learning environment, there
is a maximum of fifteen participants and a minimum of two staff in
every program. Participants must bring a snack, water bottle, sun hat,
sunscreen, daypack and weather/class appropriate clothing and footwear
(no open toe shoes).
Full day programs require participants to also bring lunch and
snacks. Due to allergy issues, please NO PEANUTS, PEANUT BUTTER, OR
FOODS MADE WITH PEANUTS in lunches. Letters confirming specifics
will be mailed to participants prior to each program.
